How can the school support students who have difficulty finding calm, focus and recovery?

During the autumn, DayCape participated in MindZen’s pilot workshops, where young people had the opportunity to explore mindfulness, breathing exercises, and meditation — both in traditional formats and with the support of VR.

The results show that:

  • Structured, guided exercises strengthen students’ ability to unwind

  • Visual and clearly defined environments reduce external distractions

  • Digital tools can serve as an effective complement to existing student health services

VR meditation in particular was experienced as helpful for focus and presence, precisely because the immersive visual environment makes it easier to shut out distracting stimuli. At the same time, it is clear that the technology works best as a complement — not a replacement — for other methods.

For us at DayCape, these are important insights.

Schools today meet students with widely varying needs for structure, clarity, and recovery. Visualization and digital support can be one way to address these needs — on the student’s terms.

We look forward to bringing the lessons learned from MindZen into our continued work developing support for both children and young adults.
